Comprehensive chimney care for your home's safety and efficiency

Local Chimney Sweep And Cleaning

Creosote builds up every time you burn wood - and it's the #1 cause of chimney fires. We clean the full flue system from top to firebox, removing soot, glazed creosote, and blockages so your chimney draws properly and your family stays safe.

Chimney Inspection

Level 1, 2, or 3 - we match the inspection to the situation. Buying a home? Level 2 with video. Annual checkup? Level 1 covers it. We document everything with photos and give you a clear report, not a sales pitch.

Chimney Repair

Cracked crowns, crumbling mortar joints, damaged flue tiles - we fix what's broken before it becomes a bigger problem. Most repairs take a day or less, and we'll show you exactly what needs work before we start.

Chimney Cap Installation

A chimney without a cap is an open invitation for rain, raccoons, and downdrafts. We install stainless steel and copper caps with built-in spark arrestors, custom-sized to fit your flue opening exactly.

Chimney Liner

Older chimneys often have cracked clay tiles or no liner at all - both are fire hazards. We install stainless steel and cast-in-place liners that meet current code and actually improve your draft.

Chimney Masonry Repair

Brick and mortar don't last forever, especially in humid climates. We repoint deteriorated joints, replace spalled bricks, and match existing materials so the repair blends in. Catches water problems before they reach your interior walls.

Chimney Flashing Repair

That dark stain on your ceiling near the chimney? Probably failed flashing. We remove the old material, install new step and counter flashing, and seal everything properly. Stops leaks at the source.

Chimney Rebuilds

When repair isn't enough, we rebuild. From the roofline up or from the foundation - depends on how far the damage goes. New masonry, new liner, new cap, new flashing. Done right so you won't need us again for decades.

Chimney Animal Removal

Scratching sounds? Foul smell? Birds, squirrels, and raccoons love chimneys. We remove them humanely, clear out nesting material, and cap the flue so they can't get back in.

Fireplace Cleaning

Ash piling up in the firebox, soot on the damper, smoke stains on the surround - we clean it all. Includes the firebox, smoke shelf, and damper assembly. Your fireplace will look and work like it should.

Chimney Fireplace Repair

Smoke pouring into the room instead of going up? Damper stuck? Cracked smoke chamber? We diagnose the actual problem - not guess - and fix it. Most fireplace issues are straightforward once you know where to look.

Firebox Repair

Cracked firebricks and deteriorated refractory panels are more than cosmetic - they let heat reach combustible framing behind the wall. We replace damaged bricks and mortar with proper heat-rated materials.

Gas Fireplace Cleaning

Gas fireplaces still need annual service. Dust coats the burner and logs, the pilot assembly corrodes, and the glass fogs up. We clean the full unit - burner, pilot, glass, and venting - so it runs clean and stays under warranty.

Gas Fireplace Repair

Pilot won't stay lit? No heat? Remote stopped working? We troubleshoot gas fireplace issues from thermocouples to valve assemblies. Certified on all major brands - Heatilator, Lennox, Napoleon, Majestic, and more.

Wood Stove Repair

Door gaskets wear out, baffles warp, glass cracks. We service all wood stove brands - replace worn parts, adjust the door seal, and make sure your stove drafts correctly. Gets your heat output back where it should be.

Pellet Stove Repair

Auger jams, igniter failures, control board errors - pellet stoves have more moving parts than most people realize. We diagnose and repair the issue, clean the exhaust path, and get your stove feeding and burning properly again.

Duct Cleaning

Your HVAC pushes air through every duct in the house - along with whatever's living in them. Dust, pet dander, mold spores, construction debris. We clean the full system and you'll notice the difference in air quality immediately.

Dryer Duct Cleaning

Lint in your dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen - it's one of the top causes of house fires nationally. We clean the full run from the dryer to the exterior vent. Clothes dry faster, energy bill drops, fire risk gone.

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

Restaurants, offices, multi-unit buildings - commercial ductwork collects grease, dust, and allergens at scale. We schedule after hours to keep your business running and bring your system up to health code standards.

Chimney Cap Installation

October 30, 2025 Glen Allen
Problem

The roof-mounted rectangular chase previously lacked a proper fitted cover and one of the clay flues was uncapped, allowing water, debris and potential animal entry. The concrete crown shows surface spalling and cracks around the flue openings and the open flue rim is worn; inside the flue there was light creosote buildup, pine-needle debris and a rusted throat edge indicating the unit needs a sweep and further inspection.

Solution

Measured the chase opening, removed the old chase top, and installed a new metal rectangular chase cover with a square mesh chimney cap on the right clay flue. Edges were sealed, loose debris and pine needles were cleared from the chase top, additional new caps were staged from the truck, and I documented the deteriorated crown and rim of the left flue for recommended follow-up repair.

The new chase cover and right-flue cap are cleanly fitted and sealed, restoring weatherproofing and animal protection; roof area was left tidy. Recommended a full chimney sweep and crown repair/replacement for the cracked spalling crown and the worn open flue to ensure long-term safe operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from Henrico

I live in an older home in Henrico County. What's a realistic cost to get my chimney inspected and brought up to Virginia code? LOCAL

+

In Henrico County, the cost for a chimney inspection and necessary repairs can vary significantly. A Level 1 visual inspection and sweeping typically falls between $250 and $450. If your chimney needs repairs to meet Virginia's Fire Prevention Code, such as relining or masonry work, expect costs to rise significantly. Reline jobs, for instance, can range from $2,500 to over $5,000, depending on the situation. Once we conduct an initial inspection, we provide a detailed estimate, so you'll know the exact price to ensure your chimney is both compliant and safe for use.

I'm thinking of installing a new wood stove in my Henrico home. Are there specific local codes or permits I need to worry about? LOCAL

+

When adding a wood stove in Henrico, you must secure a mechanical permit from the Henrico County Building Inspections office, as mandated by the Virginia Statewide Building Code. This permit is crucial for ensuring compliance with safety measures, including proper clearances and venting design. While it may seem like red tape, getting a permit safeguards your family and aligns with insurance requirements. We assist our clients through this process and ensure that all installations meet local safety standards, allowing you to enjoy your new wood stove worry-free during those cold Virginia winters.

I live in Henrico County and we get those unpredictable Virginia ice storms. When is the best time to schedule my annual chimney sweep and inspection to be ready for winter? LOCAL

+

To prepare for winter in Henrico, schedule your annual chimney sweep and inspection in late summer or early fall, ideally between August and October. This timing avoids the rush that happens when cold weather sets in, allowing for more flexible scheduling. Completing this service early ensures your chimney is ready to handle sudden winter storms or power outages. An inspection before the busy season also provides ample time for any necessary repairs, particularly important for historic homes that may have underlying issues. It's a smart move to ensure a safe and warm winter.

After the strong winds and heavy rain we get from tropical storms in Henrico, are there any specific chimney safety issues I should check for? LOCAL

+

After a tropical storm in Henrico, it’s crucial to inspect your chimney for potential damage. High winds may dislodge your chimney cap, leaving the flue exposed to rain and animals. Water stains on your ceiling or walls are a red flag indicating possible leaks due to damaged flashing or brickwork. While there's no specific code for post-storm checks, ensuring your chimney is intact is vital for safety. Conducting a professional inspection can help catch and address any issues before you light your first fire of the season.

Do I need a permit from Henrico County to have my chimney repaired or relined? LOCAL

+

In Henrico County, a permit is necessary for significant chimney work such as relining or major structural repairs. For routine maintenance like cleanings, you typically won’t need one. However, obtaining a building permit for larger projects ensures compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and preserves safety standards. This process includes inspection approval to protect against potential fire risks. We manage all permitting requirements so you can rest easy knowing your chimney repairs meet local regulations and safety codes.
